feeling sorry for me

23 Nov 2011

This morning doesn’t start off so good.

I wake up feeling groggy and ill. It’s still dripping outside, with a total of 65mm of rain that’s fallen. My satcomm system, despite painstaking drying of the router box over two lanterns, is as mum as a deodorant stick. All the lights come on, but not a whisper or a wink from space. So I’m cut off, with the roads impassable and communications down. Still, I’m comfortable in camp and I have a handheld satphone for emergencies.

By ten I still don’t feel any better so I deem it wise to be on the safe side and check for malaria. My blood test comes up negative. So do I.
